Match Report

South Notts Ladies v Worksop Ladies 16 February 206
An early start at Worksop got us all up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. New player India joined us and performed an athletic starring contribution. Well done, India.
Alice and Scarlett were in the first line of defence helping Elizabeth, who was kept busy, but they all capably kept sending Worksop attacks back to their own half, scoreless.
Caroline’s energy dominated the midfield and she combined her barn door of defence with being a complete “fighter-squadron” in attack. Isobel D, Ruby/Izzy B, Bella and Kate kept running it wide and thus increased pressure on Worksop.
Up front, Beth led the forward line and Emma , Abbie, and India were firing on all cylinders and sprinting with impressive acceleration, fast and controlled, round the back of the Worksop defence.
Worksop snatched a goal against the run of play, but undeterred, the Terriers struck back through a smart well-taken tap-in by “poacher” Emma to level the score at 1-1. The play ebbed and flowed fairly equally.
Then sadly a serious injury to Alice’s head got her taken off the pitch, and holes developed in the South Notts defence. Beth fell back to midfield to assist, which weakened our forward line but helped stem the revived Worksop attacks. Three quick goals against us left the scoreline 1-4 but it was a very close-run thing until Alice was taken off. But we all felt justifiably proud of our splendid teamwork under pressure.
Coach’s U-18 prize went to Bella. What marked her out was the fact that when in possession, she paused and looked, before making shrewd passes right on the button. Formidable.
PS Alice is recovering well and looks forward to being back in action this weekend. Phew.
