Men's 2nd XI Vs Barton 3

The game was away at Barton’s home ground in Burton on Trent. Unusually for us we came out of the blocks well with some good solid defending and was great to see Will Brydon back in the team getting stuck in with defensive duties. South Notts then broke out of defence with a lovely counter attack, a fantastic ball coming into myself I think from Stuart Croston which I controlled then sending the defender the wrong way put away for 1-0. Again another counter for south and a great through ball from Stuart Croston to myself, with a little dink over the keeper 2-0 south. Barton then went on to apply a lot of pressure up to halftime that resulted in a goal 2-1. After a great halftime team talk we were out and back on it. Now comes the low part of the game for myself. Brian Blackmore or Gary Pickering put the ball through to me one on one with the keeper, seeing Stuart was up with me I slipped him the ball. With a slightly heavy touch he went round the keeper and reversed hit shot high across the goal which I thought was going over so I put my stick up, big mistake as I put it over the bar.............SORRY stu!!! However this did not put Stuart off his game and a lovely direct ball from Brian deflected by Stuart 3-1. Again pressure from Barton followed but all the lad in defence had a fantastic game. With another goal from Stuart to go 4-1 up we were looking comfortable. But with one last ditch period of the game Barton pulled one more back to end up 4-2. The game had become very open in the second half and there could have been a lot more goals with one being disallowed from Stuart right at the end. I have to say I think that it was a great team performance from back to front and enjoyable to play in let’s keep it going South!!!
