Match Report | South 1’s vs Newark 1’s Following a tough result last week (most of) South arrived at Newark wanting to finally show the potential we’ve displayed in past weeks. After Jim had (eventually) turned up and we’d gauged the skippers hangover as fineable, it was game on! A characteristically slow start put South 1-0 behind fairly quickly. However we yet again grew into the game, stringing together good passes and using our pace to break, resulting in Tom C bringing us level to head to half time 1-1. The second half started as the first had ended, South on top and taking the lead following good work from Joe and Ben, Tom C slotting home; 2-1 South. Newark responded quickly to level at 2-2 from a short corner, firing between Kieran’s legs faster than a sailor returning from sea. From here though, South turned on the style. Tom P marshalled the back line in the manner of an over keen dinner lady, which freed up Souths attacking players to go hard at Newark. In short, the oppo couldn’t handle South and we rattled in goals from Gaz B and Carlos with Tom sealing his hat trick too. Following some egregious time wasting in the corner (heavily fined), Ben completed the second half rout by netting a minute from time. 6-2 a great result lads and something to build on until Xmas |
