Match Report | Following last weeks 6-2 win over Newark 1s, another away game awaited South at Mansfield 2s. Confidence was high and South began strongly passing the ball crisply and controlling the game, apart from the occasional counter attack from the oppo. However, South were profligate in front of goal throughout and golden missed chances were to serve as a wake up call. Mansfield broke and went into half time 1-0 up. After half time, Souths relative control of the game turned to frustration as more came and went. (It would be good to score from a short you know lads - Mills, 2018). However, gangly Gaz managed to tuck one away to level the game at 1-1 and from there South piled on the pressure in search of a winner. Cheered on by the absent G Rich and his minder, South found the eventual winner as Ben slipped Nathan in (stop it) at the back post to make it 2-1. A frantic ten minutes ensued as South used any means necessary to protect their lead. Mills even managed to unsuccessfully rugby tackle a player before the end but we hung on for a hard fought 2-1 win Fair to say it’s these sort of games we wouldn’t have won a few weeks ago, excellent work lads MoM - Matty Robbo for sterling defensive work and twinkle toes worthy of strictly |
