Match Report | South Nottingham vs North Notts The second Notts derby of the season saw South arrive at Manor sports park unbeaten in 7 and looking to extend this run further against opponents we beat convincingly before Christmas In contrast to previous weeks South started pretty well in what looked an even contest to start with. North Notts arguably had the better early chances but South made them pay for their wastefulness by taking the lead through the skipper. A slick move straight from a 16 saw neat interchange between Brainz and Ben in the middle before a slip out wide enabled Tom C to carry into the D and pick out the captain to slot home 1-0. South were soon 2 up following a scramble in the D, Gaz Rich popping up to somehow find the back of the net with a series of deflections resembling a life sized game of mousetrap We think the dubious goals committee may have a look at who this is awarded to South controlled the game until half time and limited the oppo to few opportunities to get back into the game. 2-0 up at half time and doing the basics right was paying off The second half began with North Notts changing shape, which led to a more congested midfield. However B & B we’re still finding space and played out wide to Carlos who slipped in Tom C to slam home first time 3-0 South and we were looking imperious. We were ourselves guilty of being far too profligate in front of goal with both Gaz’s and Carlos unable to take golden opportunities to kill the game off (tut tut lads ). Therefore DoD contenders were many and have been more had the North Notts comeback gone any further. In a mad five minutes we conceded two soft goals to go back to 3-2 and a needed a kickstart to finish the game off. A return to the basics meant South retook control and more missed chances were to go begging. South were however reasserting control on the game. Eventually Ben controlled in the D and slotted home a long overdue goal before a neat short corner routine saw Tom C deflect in from Ben’s flick. 5-2 South and cruising The last play of the game was a short to North Notts who netted to finish the game at 5-3. A fantastic win away from home Another great performance lads and a demonstration in what can be achieved by doing the basic and simple things right! A lot of top individual performances and a lot to be proud of 8 unbeaten and 5 wins in a row, let’s finish the season 7 wins on the bounce Mom - Tom P |
