Match Report | South Nottingham vs Chesterfield The last game of the season meant a trip to lowly Chesterfield with South unbeaten in 9. A win would secure a third place finish and represent a massively impressive season. This was also Gaz Rich’s last game before embarking on his fatherhood journey, if only their was a current player who was recently a Dad and continued playing anyway The game started quickly and it soon became clear the oppo had one tactic by repeatedly chucking it towards the South D. Tom P and Joe needed tennis rackets more than hockey sticks...probably would’ve picked a couple more too South took the lead following a lightning break with Brainz and Ben combining in midfield and finding Tom C who beat two defenders, rounded the keeper and finished calmly In truth South looked in complete control from here and extended their lead with yet another break finding Nathan in the D who slotted under the keeper. South were in cruise control now and piled the pressure on, Nathan grabbing his second and our third by flicking over the keeper after scramble in the D. 3-0 at half time and South more in control of this game than the EU is over Brexit. The second half saw South extend their lead following good work from B & B, the ball eventually finding Gaz B who fired home first time. He then had to come off injured because he hadn’t warmed up. Shocking from your skipper really Some sloppiness and probably complacency meant we conceded an unnecessary goal but responded with the final goal of the game, Tom C firing into the corner. Brains even managed to play with a peach briefly...very juicy It could well have been a rugby score had we taken our chances but an assured and confident performance to finish the season. 5-1 South Mom - Ben Hopefully Tom P has stopped ‘burning’ before we head into town later |
