South Nottingham HC 3rd XI-1 Ashby 4th XI-2
... the alternative story:
We lined-up to face Ashby fourth team. Before the game started, we agreed to play it fairly and own up to any fouls committed! We kept it this way but not all teams did!
The younglings in the team played brilliantly, particularly Henry Dixon playing his first men’s game - welcome Henry the cheetah!!
Reference also follows to the avatars bestowed on all of us by James Fildes (dubbing himself a whale) - the fox up front (Arthur Dixon - not Ken who was the dinosaur) played well making great runs down the right.
Ben Ryder, the owl,(I don’t know why!) supported brilliantly by controlling the centre - thanks Ben. Ben Gregory, the stallion, was incredibly quick but sometimes too quick for his slippery hooves - you need Astro’s mate!!
Graham, the [old] goat went off early in the game with a recurrence of his hamstring injury - no good on hilly pastures now!
Mark the lion started to roar about the opposition not owning up to their fouls but the whale decide on firm action by absolutely flattening one of their juniors by the subtle use of his lithe frame! He was expecting to receive a card but was disappointed.
Henry, the bee, Waldron used his receiving skills and the odd switch to contribute to our advance following the lucky goal by Ashby.
James Duffy tried hard to remember that in proper hockey you can only use one side of the stick yes ! He did deliver some great right side balls to the fox. The dinosaur - no points for guessing - Ken stepped up and amazingly converted a penalty corner which had been skillfully injected by the owl.
Unfortunately Ashby scored again despite the efforts of Chris Barnes in goal (no avatar but should probably be
Great game despite the goal scores - if it was judged on fairness, we would have won 100% nil!
Keep up the good work juniors!!
Thanks to Euan and Bill for umpiring.

Seeing as he forgot his captain super sub!!
didn’t have an avatar either - many grovelling apologies!! What should it be? ?
All - please note that Tony played his normal steady, skilled role coming on to replace the goat. His organisational skills match his pitch skills.
Is this OK - sorry Tony- a beer on me!!
Oh dear the captain left out!! There’s no 4th team for ken to play in either!!
