South Nottingham 1’s vs Chesterfield 2’s

It’s that time of year again and South’s first league got underway with a strong looking lineup to face Chesterfield.

South started the stronger and should’ve been one up inside two minutes; the ball breaking to Ben in the D but he could only find the keepers chest. However, South began to put together some slick hockey, Will Honey and Gareth Rich making hay on the wings.

The breakthrough came shortly, Nathan Gerrard producing a wonderful solo reverse stick finish to put South one up. South were clearly still in shock from what they’d just seen, as they were completely asleep as Chesterfield equalised straight from the restart we blame you Nathan!

Despite the setback South hit back as Nathan doubled his tally immediately. Some more sublime passing hockey followed...and so did another goal. But which way did it go Jeff?! It went to South...Ben slotting in our 3rd and ensuring a 3-1 lead at half time.

There wasn’t much to say at half time, and South started the second half well. One golden opportunity for Chesterfield to score was thwarted by a sublime pick on the line from Harry and South capitalised. Matty entering the D to reverse a high shot which was deflected down by Carlos. Will Honey then added his first goal of the season on his return to the club with a dinked backst...reverse stick finish...

South weren’t done though as Captain Gangle added another to conclude the scoring for the home side, bundling home from about a yard. (Tut tut Carlos) A mixture of fatigue, age and laziness then led to chesterfield replying to make it 6-2. This was the end of the scoring however, with South running out convincing winners.

A superb start to the season, a good benchmark for future performances this year
