Nottingham 2s 2 v 3 South Nottingham 1’s

Buoyed from their performance last week, South made the short journey to Goosedale to take on Nottingham 2s. After a defeat in Pre season, South believed they could leave with a positive result from the league fixture.

After a long team talk, which even contained an interval, South started well, keeping possession nicely around the back with Brainz and Tommy and the midfield link of Ben and Mills. Full backs Harry and Fletch were able to make their attacking presence felt, with their tireless overlaps. However, South couldn’t make the pressure count and just lacked the final killer ball despite the best efforts of both Gazs on the wings. A number of balls just going across the Dee and nobody able to find that killer touch or pass to open Nottingham up.

South were made to pay before half time as a counter attack from Nottingham saw them take the lead before the break. The troops were rallied at half time and South knew they had to up the tempo and pace. They started well but again a killer counter attach saw Nottingham double their advantage.

This proved to be the wake up call South needed. A powering run from Tom Crossland tore the Nottingham defence apart and he unselfishly passed to Carlos to fire South back into the game.

Now South were ticking and playing with a much higher intensity. This time it was Carlos’ turn to find Crossland, who fired past the keeper.

At 2-2, the momentum was with South and the lads were buoyed further from the return of the heroric Mills, playing through the pain threshold after an injury earlier in the game (You’ll never guess who is writing the match report)

South were now creating chances and one of them was eventually turned in from Mikey at the back post to give South the lead and complete an impressive comeback.

Nottingham didn’t give up and South had to hold on to a large amount of pressure in the last five minutes of the game with Mark Willey, stepping up from the twos, defending brilliantly. At the final whistle, South were relieved to celebrate three points and an impressive comeback. The man of the match voting being shared around, showed this was a real team effort to complete back to back wins for South.
