Men's 1st XI Vs Barton 2

A grey day welcomed South back home to Bingham looking for their 9th home win in a row, with Barton 2’s the latest opposition to try to break the streak.

With the teamtalk delivered in a single instalment as opposed to last week’s production stressing the importance of making the right decisions, South flew out of the blocks taking the lead in the opening minutes with Carlos Turner taking advantage of a mistake by a defender to rob him and pull back for skipper Gaz Bland cutting in from the left for a simple tap in. Not long later it was 2-0 and Barton were reeling and already losing their cool, with Carlos slotting home himself this time. Barton threatened occasionally but failed to create many serious opportunities with the back 4 defending resolutely. 2 quickfire goals from Tom Crossland, one a typical bulldozing solo goal, saw South go in at 4-0 up at HT and it could’ve been more.

The second half started as the first finished with a quick South goal. Picking the ball up on the far side of the D on the backline, Carlos beat multiple defenders and somehow found the net from a tight angle for a fantastic goal. Chances continued to come and Gaz Rich netted South’s 6th with a textbook cover drive of a bouncing ball into the bottom corner. Barton had a few chances which Tommy Hall dealt with well to preserve their his clean sheet and as they piled forward in search of a consolation, space was opening up well for South on the break. However no further goals came until Carlos wrapped up his hattrick in the final minutes.

A final score of 7-0 represented an outstanding result for South and a well earned clean sheet. A strong start to the season sees South in 3rd, with a tough trip to our old friend Pinky’s 4th place Beeston next week.
