South Nottingham 1’s [4v2] West Bridgford 3’s

After having a tough Christmas period without a win in 4, but with some positive performances, South were due a good result coming into the game to register there first win of the new year.

South began the game well and was rewarded with an early solo goal from Tommy C who intercepted the ball and with a calm head slotted the ball beyond the keeper to make the score 1-0 to South.

South began to take a firm hold on the game, which was evident with the calmness show by the back 4, Tom P, Joey, Batty and Jimbo, as they constantly transferred the ball across the pitch. With this long spell of possession it soon brought about another goal with the ball being shipped down the wing by Mark to Carlos who cut inside and threaded the ball through to the captain Gaz who managed to put South 2 up.

Bridgford soon realised they would have to improve if they were going to get anything from the game. With a good spell from the opposition, South would show there defensive strengths and with good communication we held them out for the last 10 minutes before the half time whistle blew.

At the start of the second half the opposition continued there spell of good pressure but couldn’t capitalise, this was proven costly as south grew back into the game and with a bursting run from Tommy c through the middle of the pitch, found Carlos with a hit through the D who got a clear deflection to purposely slot the ball into the bottom left corner.

A hopeful arial ball through Souths defensive brought about West Bridgfords first goal and with the pressure increasing they soon converted a second from a short corner. But drunk from the night before, Tommy hall claims he never saw the ball hit the back of the net.

The final goal from south came from a messy short corner with Ben pouncing on a loose ball and flicking it into the back of the net to make the score 4-2.

There were many highlights of the match but the most memorable was the usual interruption to the game caused by none other than Tommy Crossland and the two green cards for Carlos and Archie Heaney. With Archie Heaney’s being the most severe with great umpiring from Dick and Ray making sure he was properly punished for his misdemeanour.

The game finished a 4-2 win to South and hopefully can be the anchor point for some more good performances in the oncoming fixtures to work our way back up the league
