Ian lane reports
Mighty 2s huffed and puffed...
having successfully winning DOD for being an hour early... then missed the meet time.. the game got underway! We had another change to the team, no Brian, Batty was prompted to umpire having won the “I’m more injured than Jon Lane” contest, Sam C and Henry returned to the 3s but we welcomed back Jon and COTTERS!! We started ok, a couple of pen corners and efforts saved by their keeper went by then we thought, well Jon thought, we’d taken the lead but Gary was outside the circle when he deflected Jon’s 40 yard hit pass into the top corner! They got a break away after some confusion... and the their winger managed to get passed Mark before drawing Sam and popping it in the roof, well taken . Jon almost hit the backboard with a pen corner hit but sadly only almost! So haribo time, sorry half-time with us 0-1 down... Skipper Grozzy gave our orders and off we went for the 2nd half. We started brightly but still couldn’t find a way through... then the first of three mistakes happened (all three were us giving away possession when not under any pressure) and they pounced 0-2. Sam pulled off two great stops 1-1 to keep our hopes alive but mistake 2 =‘d 0-3 but again we pressed ahead, Mark’s injured arm started to cause in trouble so Jon pushed forward in his place to try and help unlock the defence, a few trade mark thunderbolts flashed into/across the D but unfortunately we were unable to get a South stick on them to send them net bound! They then put the final nail in our coffin and scored a 4th... game over! We just weren’t good enough, movement was not at our normal standard, and in fairness to Boots they finished what they started... we couldn’t! So a week to ponder on what should/could have been before a 16:30 game away at Belper Meadow against the division leaders.
