Uncle Ian Lane reporting:
Saturday Derwent 4’s v SNHC 2’s
The Mighty 2's arrived at a wet Derwent keen to put right the past couple of weeks and get a win but more importantly play well and enjoy it. Derwent started well and had lots of possession and although they had a few efforts on goal Sam Lane repelled everything they threw at him. We got into the game in bursts and asked them a few questions and just before half time we hit them with an incisive move and crisp finish from Grozzy. This followed a slight shift in formation moving Steve and Sharpie further forward in midfield and Ian Lane playing in front of the back to nullify Derwents fluid midfield in attack. This worked well up to half time as although they had the lions share of possession they never really threatened to score. After half time we put together better passages of play with the ever powerful colossus that is Will Brydon throwing ariels into midfield aiming for Sharpie with Grozzy gambling in behind. Change of equipment for Sharpie as his stick finally gave up the ghost and snapped, to be fair, with his no compromise tackling style, it has lasted well! Another good break and intelligent use of the ball enabled Poacher Grozzy to drill the ball under an advancing keeper and rattle off the backboard for two nil. Derwent then resembled the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl, combusting in on themselves and coughing up possession and doing too much as individuals rather than spraying it around as they had been. On 62 minutes Ian Lane escalated a justified green card into a harsh yellow, apparently you can't ask the opposition what the score is, even when they are laughing at you when you get a green. Or it could be that I called him a d1c?head and he is the umpires stepson (that might not be true) anyway South were down to 10 for the rest of the game but that didn't matter as we ran out worthy winners. Sam Lane had a great game at the back as did Will, midfield worked hard all game and Grozzy did the business where it mattered, actually a great performance by every one, just shows what we can do against a much younger and more mobile team.
Final score: 0-2
