Match report South Nottingham 2’s vs Derby 3’s -
Elliot Dixon reporting:
Well it was a blustery 12:45 meet at Bingham for south notts 2s to face bottom of the table derby 3s ( that still have the blank above them...)
But with that in mind and a pre match talk from our captain we knew it had the potential to be a tough match.
The first half saw south with a lot of possession and a lot of wasted chances until Nathan collected a lovely pass from the elder of the lane brothers ( I think), drove in to the D with me screaming for it at the back post, the keeper kindly stepped right making a lovely little gap for NG to slot it home. 1-0 south.
After another period of possession and south relentless attacks, we ended up with a flick( still not quite sure what for ) but our leader stepped up and calmly slotted it away.
2-0 south and the end of the first half.
The second half saw south start a little slowly allowing derby to grab a goal against the run of play. 2-1 but south still comfortable.
But derby had started to believe they could get some from the game and against the tide scored
2-2.
But as always south do not let their heads drop - wave after wave of attacks saw mike coxe slot one just wide of the post after a lovely passage of play, south won an increasing number of short corners later but still couldn’t convert them! Going into the last 5 minutes it was still 2-2.
Now this bit not so good for me!!! South on yet another attack, ball comes to me I turn and try to find stu or Jonny but it hit a defender foot (shin) that is given against me, I questioned that and was asked to sit down for two minutes. This turned out to be inspired as j lane was about to roll on for me anyway. The whistle blew for the two minutes sin bin to be over and derby stooped. Brian chucked a fantastic ball over the top into the D to j lane who controlled and smashed it past the keeper. South almost saw the last couple of minutes out, only to concede a penalty corner as the final whistle blew, so it was all hands to the pumps to keep Derby from escaping with a point... Solid defending under huge pressure led to the ball hitting an attackers foot and the 3-2 victory was complete.
This was a last minute smash to win but the score did not reflect the game.
I would also like to apologise to mr Simmons. (Thanks to Ray & Dick for umpiring).
Well done guys for all the hard work this week even tho we did make it hard ourselves. On to chesterfield next week.
