SNHC 2’s vs Boots 4’s

A slight breeze greeted 10 of SNHC finest at the Nottingham Sports Club for what looked like the clash of the season against Boots 4’s. The 11th player was sitting in a dressing room at Beeston wondering where the rest of the team were, a mad dash across Nottingham ensued after realisation dawned and dick of the day was in the bag.

From the whistle Boots tried to dominate the game with some crisp passing and tasty play but South soaked up everything and threw it straight back. Fresh from the bosom of the team photographer Nathan bossed the midfield with a cracking display of ball control and passing, playing hand in hand with Sharpie the Duracell bunny they opened up the Boots midfield to give Cotters, Grozzy and Fin chances in the D.

South struck the backboard first with a well worked play resulting in the skipper having all the time in the world to find the goal. What followed was wave after wave of Boots attacks all soaked up by the magical defense of Stevie and Brian marshalled by the big presence of Mark Doney between the sticks.  Nathan had a screamer denied by the Boots keeper and despite South having the the majority of possession couldn’t convert goal number 2.

Half’s Garry, Willey working the wings with confidence backed up by the legendary Andy Jenkins caused the Boots attack all sorts of problems with their sublime tackling and dinking runs. Unfortunately a well worked short corner from Boots levelled the score to 1-1 30secs before the half whistle.

The 2nd half started with lots of Boots possession all thwarted by the South defense, Stevie Powell picking balls like he was picking fruit! Brian continued to fire bombs up the pitch to Cotters and the skipper, frustratingly nothing hitting the net. Fin stepping up from the 3’s was having an awesome game on the right and almost sneaked one in but goal number 2 came eventually for the skipper who staying on his feet fired in from the back post.

A well disciplined south looked like they would walk away with 3 points but yet another short corner awarded to Boots for a minor infringement outside the D made the score 2-2.

Every single one of today’s team put in a massive effort and deserved to come away with the win but despite trying our best we had to make do with a draw. Not one man on the pitch deserved dick of the day so thankfully Willey and his wrong pitch blunder took the accolade.

Man of the match looks like being shared between Nathan and Brian.
