Match report, Saturday December 7th V Belper 8.
Tony Eli’s reports
After resting the week before due our match being postponed, the Mighty 3's welcomed Belper looking for back to back wins.
The line up leading up to the game was changing daily. Starting with an impressive 16, We passed x3 to the 2's, but then lost 3 due to illness and injury...so we were faced with 10 player until Duffy came on board to save the day
Then one hour before PB Dr Fildes pulled out the stops to make a surprise appearance.
So we set off with 12, a more "mature" looking side than usual but no lacking in effort and enthusiasm.
South started strong with new striker Duffy partnering Ken up front. Midfield comprised of Hamza, our one and only Junior in the side today, Neal and Mark in the centre, with Adam on the right( well, for a brief while before his instinct to wander kicked in!). A solid looking defence with Graham left, Dick and Knappet in the middle and Tony returning to the right. With Simon returning to the side we were set.
From the off, South bossed possession, and were rewarded with a debut goal from Duffy. A great start, but on the break Belper were clinical and equalised with their first attack. Back came South, again playing mostly in their half, Ken struck on the volley 2-1, then again, a clinical finish 2-2.
Then something not often seen, Tony found space on the right, sprinted up the wing, drilling the ball in to Fildes to hammer home. 3-2 ( one for match of the day).
Half time in front, confidence flowing.
Second half saw South again bossing possession but despite chance after chance could not convert. Clinical Belper put 2 away, despite valiant efforts South could not force the equaliser.
So not the result we wanted or deserved but the team gave their all.
Bring on 2020
