South Notts 3s vs north Notts 5’s
Andy Wallace
South Notts 3’s have shown some great progress since the turn of the year, in particular The youngsters have taken a real step forward and today’s game was another major improvement. Turning up for a 17:00 pushback in north Notts was far from ideal, but we had a mix of youth and experience despite 3 of our under 16s featuring strongly in the 2s victory earlier. The game started with North pushing for an opener and Mark Doney (keeper) saved well as we suffered 15 mins of pressure! Slowly we started to make use of our possession through Sam Clough And Rhys Collins. Arthur Gilroy Davis now had their previously difficult to manage forward in his pocket and the midfield tracked the runners well. The last 15 mins were dominated by South and a well deserved opener by Toby Clough “100%” meant we arrived at half time ahead but frustrated with only being one ahead. The second half was all South with constant pressure and many chances missed or saved. Sam continued to dominate the midfield, Ken Shapland and Paul Hollingsworth were making some great runs and James ‘Knappy’ Knappett /Graham Johnson and Craig Lawson were solid in defence! Even Adam Hopewell was making swift overlaps on the right wing, something last seen in 1953! Our dominance was assured with Paul Finishing a great move instigated by Sam and then a deflection from a hit into the D. A number of standout performances again from defence through to the forwards and a great clean sheet!
