Match Report | South Notts 3’s vs Boots 6’s It was a bright sunny day that greeted the mighty 3’s for the first home friendly of the season. After a well drilled warm up the whistle blew and from the start South pulled together a series of slick passes leading to the Boots D testing the young keeper. Unfortunately R Butler couldn’t find the net despite some desperate scrambling all over the opposition D. Boots managed the first goal of the game finding a hole in Souths defence and slotting past the usual stone wall of T Hall. Another came quickly despite the best efforts of the South defence. South pressed forward and harried the Boots defence winning a short, the skipper S Croston put a wicked pass to N Batty who’s sublime lift over the recumbent keeper pulled a goal back for South. Some good end to end play resulted in Boots barging though Souths last line of defence and scoring again. South were undaunted and again tested the Boots defence with a succession of crisp passes from G Pickering and T Clough to gift R Butler a shot on goal finally ending in the back of the net. Despite this Boots managed to convert again before half time, penetrating the usually nimble L Pinkney and N Batty to put T Hall off his line again With all on the pitch working hard tired legs went into the break but filled up with positive adjectives from the skipper the whistle blew for the second half. Much the same as the first with South having more possession and silky passing through the midfield. Man of the match A Sharpe proving he can skin a whole team with ease, supported by A Butler and J Lawes the ball pinged into the D time and time again only for the south forwards to be denied. Eventually another short was awarded and A Sharpe stepped up to take the strike. Beautifully struck the shot was high and wide but a gazelle like N Batty putting his body on the line managed to deflect the ball into the net, the game was on. Despite the best efforts South couldn’t manage to convert any more with the game ending 4-3 to Boots. |
