Match Report | South Notts 1s started there league campaign at home to Newark 1s, who they had previously beat 9-1 in a recent friendly. Needless to say, a much changed Newark 1s team turned up to play this game! Newark started the game with most the possession but South did an excellent job in holding there shape and Newark struggled to break through and rarely pass half way. Gaz Rich has the best chance to put South in front but missed from 2 yards (or even 2cm out) putting it over the bar. Luckily for him, Finn but South 1-0 reacting to a short corner that Newark failed to clear. South went in 1-0 with their goal rarely threaten. In the second half, South again kept their shape and formation well, forcing Newark to have to force balls through. South went 2-0 with skipper Gaz Bland getting his season off to a great start. Then it was 3-0 with a goal that surprised the whole team. Mikey Shapland turned into Usian Bolt!!! Sprinting down the ball and easily over taking the Newark defence. To then calmly slot home! Where the speed came from shocked everyone! Gaz Bland then got his second with a quality turn and typical power shot. South remained in control for the duration of the second half. After a moment of sportsmanship from vice captain Tom Crossland, South lost concentration for a minute an lost their clean sheet. The final whistle went shortly afterwards. A good, strong start to the season. Special mentions must be said to young lads Finn and Sam. Both more than hold their own and we look forward to seeing more from them. MoM: Matty |
