31/10/20
After last week’s disappointing loss vs Beeston 5s South Nottingham hosted a Mansfield team we’ve played against  lot in previous years we knew it would be a though game through the hockey that would be played as well as the physicality bought by Mansfield.
Mansfield started the stronger of the 2 sides using the ball well and creating chances against the usually strong back two of big Tommy P and Harry L after a period of pressure unfortunately South went 1-0 down courtesy of a well worked goal by Mansfield which saw them use the ball well down the left hand side and driving down the baseline and a good finish from the P spot leaving Sam in goal with little chance to keep it at 0-0.
After the disappointment of going 1 down South regrouped playing simple hockey with some sharp passing something we had worked on at training on Thursday so nice to see that bought into matchday unfortunately South couldn’t test the keeper and Mansfield defence and we went into the half time break 1-0 down
We agreed we were not playing the hockey that we know were capable of but there was still a chance to take all 3 points from this game by making the ball do the work and using our superior fitness levels.
The second half pushed back with some great play from south but still could not make anything count. Both Harry and Tom P along with Will honey, Matty R and Tom F defended with a lot of heart unfortunately south were caught napping and Mansfield were coming attacking the south goal yet again with South GK Sam being the last line of defence he decided to come out and attack the Mansfield ball carrier to have the ball passed around him and into the open goal (Sorry lads) 2-0 down.
Mansfield continued to attack and finish the game off although couldn’t with 2 good saves from Sam and defending keeps the score at 2-0 south do eventually get a goal back from the skipper Gaz Bland the call was to go again but this couldn’t be the case as the final whistle goes with South on the loosing side on what is going to be their last game in a while.
As always thanks to everyone who came to watch and Dick and Ray for umpiring.
