Match Report | Match Report - Men's 2nd XI Derwent 2s v SNHC 2s Tough match today away at Derwent. The weather was grim and only got grimmer! From the off Derwent controlled play, with our back 4 with Andy in front repelling attack after attack, backed up by a strong display by Mark in goal. The defence was holding well, until some dickhead in the middle of the park gave the ball away, and Derwent broke and opened the scoring. Apologies chaps! Derwent then won a number of short corners, and eventually put one in, going 2-0 in the process. South were resolute in defence, and still found opportunities to break forward. One of our best chances came from Nathan taking on 5 men at once, skinning them all and getting the ball down the left. Jon deflected the resulting cross just wide of goal, with Ian agonisingly close turning it in. 2-0 at half time, against the well drilled 14 men of Derwent was an admirable showing. The spare players Derwent could call on starting having an effect in the second half, with more and more attacks coming our way. Derwent scored a third after a cracking assist from Arthur, stopping it on the line for the attacker! (Don't worry about it mate, we've all done it before!). The defence held firm, and we were unlucky to concede 2 more in the latter stages of the game, some topped and bobbled shots squirted their way through the D and were turned in. 5-0 was the final score, but it was always going to be a tough task playing a team like Derwent with a bare 11. However we did ourselves proud. Everyone ran themselves ragged, never gave up, and you can't ask for anything more really. Put the result behind us, we go again next week! |
