Match report South 2’s vs Mansfield 3’s
Arthur Gilroy-Davis reporting
South 2nd XI played away this week against Mansfield 3’s who had lost 3 games before so we were feeling confident going on. Weather was sunny with a nice cooling breeze. Bolstered by a core of fit young 3s players due to injuries and school games South lined up ready for the whistle.
The first half. South started strong with an early on goal from Alex off a short corner with a drag flick. Almost straight after Alex scored a second goal on the reverse, South were feeling good and Mansfield’s heads started to drop. The arm wrestle continued but then Mikey got the ball on a counter attack and lightly tapped the ball towards the D expecting someone to try and tackle him. However, NO ONE did so he waited for the ball to slowly make its way to the D and then just after it entered the D Mike buried it into the goal for south’s 3rd goal of the match. Soon after South got the ball again and Garry walloped it into the goal for another south goal. Therefore, at half time South Notts were up 4-0 to the good.
The second half. South began the second half strong but unfortunately against the run of play Mansfield scored off a short corner with a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. This gave Mansfield a glimmer of hope with the score 4-1 early in the second half. However, South carried on and didn’t let the goal affect them. Then half way through the second half Mansfield scored again. The goal was scored after the ball hit a Mansfield players foot however the foot was unseen by the umpire unfortunately for South. Nevertheless, with the score 4-2 South continued to dominate possession without any reward. Nonetheless South’s ruthlessness in front of goal in the first half meant that South could see out the second half without any fear of losing the game. The game ended 4-2 with South Notts taking all 3 points away from the game. The result also meant that South Notts 2’s performed the double against Mansfield 3’s in the league this season and consolidated South Notts mid table position.
