Match Report | South Nottm 1st made the long trip away to a surprisingly sunny Matlock as the first clash of horns with the early high-flyers Derwent. South Nottm were running on a High after its stunning 3-1 victory last week vs Beeston, so got off to a strong start. Strong performances from Sam Clough and Dan Recaldin in the centre of the pitch gave the visitors the ability to retain and transition possession well. This strategy led to a penalty corner against Derwent, converted by Tom Crossland 0-1. Derwent fought back to make it 1-1 and Dan Recaldin for South Nottm fired in another to make it 1-2 to South Nottm. Play ebbed and flowed at a punishing pace. The South Nottm defence capably kept out wave after wave of Derwent attacks. In the second half Derwent equalised and managed to scramble two more to make it 4-2 to Derwent. Lessons were learnt on the importance of keeping possession and playing wide to finding unmarked team members. South Nottm look forward with confidence to the return fixture. |
