Match Report

After the minute’s silence, some of the slower South players happened to realise the umpires were our very own Mr. Doney’s dearest father. In all seriousness, quality performance from both Mr. Doney and his umpiring partner. South started strongly but for some reason - Newark's keeper - they couldn't finish their chances. Unfortunately after Newark’s first chance, they managed to score a well worked team goal. South momentarily step it up with a well worked goal leading to Fin unintentionally flapping to make it 1-1.  After some quality play from Tarzan, he somehow managed to sit on the ball. Right after this, TC came off with a stone in his shoe and Tommy P came back from injury to join Jim at centre back. Newark threw a decent aerial and Dan Trueman tried a pirouette, putting the red flappy bird to shame, but somehow missing the ball by 5 feet. Newark then scored a tickler underneath Doney's foot and through Tommy P's stick. Just before half time Harry scored a short corner from a TC style play.

After an invigorating team talk, South manged to finally go ahead with Harry roofing the ball for a magical team goal. About 5/10 minutes later, South switched off and this led to a Newark scoring a tap in. South then switched back on and started to look dangerous with both Mat and Jim putting multiple balls on the back post, Tom C hitting the crossbar and Nathan scaring every defender with his pace. Finally, after some variation from the back, South managed to squeeze through Newark's defence with Fin poaching another tap in.  South killed the game when Tom C scored with 4 minutes to go.

Whilst it wasn't the most comfortable performance from South, they got what they needed - 3 points.

Mom went to the rock at the back Mr Jim Ward.
