South were at home to an inform derwent team, hot on the tails for a promotion place. A strong lineup with a few familiar faces helped us get off to a strong start. Early pressure from South lead a string of short corners which we couldn’t convert into a goal. Finally a breakthrough came with a well worked goal, and lovely finish from Harry Beedham. Derwent increased the pressure and played some lovely passes through the lines. Strong communication from Mark Doney in goal helped the CB pairing of Jim Ward and Tom Fletcher to mop up any counter attacks. South ended the half with a 1-0 lead moving into the second period. A frantic first 10 mins lead to heavy pressure from Derwent, which was expelled thanks to some fantastic saves from Mark Doney. Quick transitional play from Tom Crossland and James Turner have south break up the pitch. This was finished from Tom Crossland. Derwent hit back with a swift counter attack which was unfortunately deflected in my Tom Fletcher. South absorbed much pressure in the last quarter however a lovely ball from Sam Clough set Harry Beedham free to lift it over the oncoming keeper. A great day for South, another 3 points on the board and solidifying our position mid table.
