Match Report

The first game of the season has arrived and the 2s turned up with a squad of a significantly higher average age than envisaged in infancy of August. More akin to a loveable and long serving labrador than an energetic Yorkshire terrier.

Nevertheless, team labrador dominated from the outside and fetched themselves a one goal lead from a short corner courtesy of an Alex Cavan’s drag flick. The start of a remarkable game for the ponytailed Hero South's play continues to be dominant, marshalled by a superb back four display and the tireless running of Kai Thornton and Robbie out wide. The panting and chasing a ball paid off for team dog when Gary Pickering picked up a pass from midfield before planting a reverse stick pass into the path of Alex who tipped it in with glee. The South machine was rolling and all heads were out the window, tongues lolling in the breeze.

2-0 at half time and a rousing team talk from the hitherto mostly redundant keeper Tommy sent us off again to carry on the dominance. South's play improved further and they quickly went 3-0 up with Alex completing his hattrick with a tap in following a goalmouth scramble. There's a good boy.

As the rain came down in cats and (you guessed it) dogs, South continued to play with increased verve and confidence, Alex made it 4 and put Team Labrador out of sight.

The rest of the game passed with little to no alarm and the final score read South 4, Loughborough Town 0.

We haven't done a vote but captains MoM goes to the impressive Kai Thornton who (along side Robbie) showed real grit and pedigree (chum)... I'll stop.

Excellent performance everyone, let's march on to next week with tails in the air
