Match Report

From the start South Nottm were the dominant side with nice, crisp passing and plenty of communication. This led to an early ball down the left from Kai Thornton to a well-positioned Alex Cavan whose finishing in the D could get him the team’s top goal scorer this season; 1-0 to South Nottm.

South Nottm with its early goal pushed for more; Derwent’s defence looked under stress as the youth of Robbie, Kai Thornton, and Hamza Adamjee ran Derwent ragged, supplying cunning through-balls to lurking Stevie Waters and Alex Cavan up front, to penetrate the Derwent D.

Derwent had no player ready up front, so the South defence could spectate on a great display of hockey. One of these phases saw Skipper Ben Ryder dance through the Derwent midfield, linking up with Gary Pickering and Stevie Waters, to pass to Alex Cavan who calmly slotted it home. 2-0 to South Nottm

A positive half-time chat from Ben Ryder and Tommy Lane reminded South Nottm that the team object is to play good hockey; goals would then follow. Unfortunately only 1 goal came from the second half, again from super-scorer Alex Cavan who scored a hat trick.

The rest of the second half was a bit scrappy, with Derwent getting frustrated, trying to fire long balls through to their solitary forward who even managed to fire one shot at goal- classically, straight into the chest of one of Derwent’s own players!

The defence of Mark Willey, Mark Roe and Jim Ward was tireless. They plied the midfield and forwards with awesome distribution, easily mopping up any Derwent counter-attacks.

A good positive game from a well-rounded South Nottm team. Lots of work from the youngsters and super talent displayed from those “not quite so young”.

Final score 3-0 to South Nottm.
