Match Report | The game began with Barton immediately on the attack as they overloaded the midfield and created several good chances. These were unsuccessful, thanks to an outstanding display of goalkeeping. South Nottm, after negotiating the initial assaults, showed clinical instincts to take the lead. A well won penalty corner provided new member James Bellamy the opportunity to tuck away his debut goal to make it 1-0. Followed quickly by Thomas Brackenbury coolly and calmly making it 2-0. South Nottm’s youngsters held firm against Barton’s powerful counter-attacks and showed considerable backbone to hold on to a 2-0 lead and take the 3 points back to the Bingham zoo. Special mentions go to South Nottm’s man of the match Finn Collins, and Toby Clough, for putting in commanding performances in unfamiliar positions in defence. South 2s now sit second in the league table, a fine start to the season and reflective of the development of its young players. Final score 2-0 to South Nottm. |
