South Nottingham 2 vs Boots 4

A brisk afternoon greeted South Nottingham young (and old) guns as they arrived at Lady Bay for their final clash of the season, and as has become customary, made hard work of things.

South dominated the early exchanges, playing a high line and penning Boots in. This led to the occasional breakaway from the home side but it was South who struck first. Some smart interchange from Braveheart (Stephen), County (Toby) and the skipper saw the captain slot into the far corner to make it 1-0.

We promptly then conceded and then scored again with Braveheart finding the net himself on this occasion - although I can't remember the finish. We'll assume it wasn't top bins in the reverse. 2-1 South at half time.

The final team talk of the season was again about keeping hold of the ball more effectively, and a change around in personnel led to an improved, if flawed, performance.

Kai ran the Boots midfield ragged with his Duracell bunny like energy and Lord Brackenbury gave us much needed width. South went 3-1 up with Toby scoring his second in as many games since his high profile move from left back. One can only assume he has dirt on the captain to be retaining that particular spot.

Another scrappy concession made the game 3-2 before Alex the Hitman Cavan added South's fourth with a clever reverse flicked finish.

Stephen had his excellent performance rewarded further as he added his second on the break as Boots pushed high to get themselves back into it.

Then followed another green card for the skipper, although even the Boots defence couldn't quite fathom what for.

As a side note, the following was described as 'filthy' and 'ridiculous'... The last breakaway of the game saw the South captain up front and receive a long ball from Mark Willey (again excellent alongside the solid pairing of Roey and Brian), slip the ball past the defender and then lob the onrushing keeper to round off the scoring and seal an excellent season for the 2's.

Superb performances from all of our young players yet again, as the future first team continue to grow in leaps and bounds.
