Men's 3rd XI Vs Barton 4

The early skirmishes saw a youthful Barton team try to carve out some chances but a resolute defence of Tom Cross, Neil Batty, Craig Bingham & Craig Lawson meant Tommy Hall’s goal was barely troubled in the first half, apart from a rare Barton chance coming from a powerful cross into the D that Tommy Hall saved at point blank range…. Awesome skills!

The central midfield duo of Owain Gunn & Gary Pickering were industrious, breaking down Barton attacks and feeding the wide runners, young Will Bingham and returning South Nottm  player Sam McNeil making his debut.

The first goal came from an Exocet pass into the D from Gary Pickering, the ball hit the keeper’s kickers and flew straight up 20ft into the air, Skipper Stuart Croston volleyed the falling ball back towards goal, but the keeper saved with his shoulder, the loose ball was then smashed down at head height into the empty net by Elliott Dixon - a finish Roger Federer would’ve been proud of.  1-0 South Nottm.

5 mins later, South Nottm doubled their lead with a great team passing sequence, ending with Stuart Croston who finished neatly from the left. 2-0 South Nottm.

South Nottm soon earned a penalty corner and Club Captain Neil Batty slapped  it in from close range at the 3rd attempt. 3-0 South Nottm.

The 4th goal arrived by way of another brilliant passing  sequence ending with Elliott Dixon rattling the Barton backboard 4-0.  South Nottm, followed by another goal from Stuart Croston  to make it 5-0  to South Nottm

The final minutes saw Barton bundle the ball into the South Nottm net to make the final score 5-1 to South Nottm.
