Match Report | Away game against Belper, a team that beat the league leaders last week and what a game it was! This was a totally different team from last week and a professional performance from all - definitely the game of the season to date. From the start we had to dig deep and genuinely had numerous players with niggles and strains which all worked through and pushed to support each other. The Belper team had a very strong mix of youth and experience but the South defence of keeper James F, who had an outstanding game between the posts, and defenders Tom C, Batty, Jimston and Bing stood strong throughout and continued to keep the numerous attacks at bay. Midfield ran more than we could have asked, and were excellent, with Owain, James M, Harry, Bing Jnr and Roey have a cracking game. The front two, Grozzy and James B looked for gaps constantly, making movement throughout the game finding the holes for defenders and midfield to feed. In the first half, following a sustained push by South, Grozzy managed to reverse flick in from short range; first goal to South. 1-0. This was followed by a disallowed goal for Roey from a short corner - disallowed as umpire couldn’t see ball leave the D. Roey then decided to drive in to the D, through to Grozzy who slammed the ball in to the back of the goal. 2-0 South. Third goal, for one of the new lads on his first appearance, James B. Harry driving the ball to the corner with Grozzy chasing past one of the Belper defenders with a lovely little pass back to James B who didn’t miss. 3-0 South. Belper kept coming back at us and continued to keep the pressure on, but Grozzy was thirsty for more, and sure enough managed to get his hat trick with a lovely flick into the corner of the goal, straight past the keeper at an awkward height just above the back board. A great 4-0 victory for South, and a real statement of intent to the league as to our calibre and quite simply a professional performance by all the players. Well done. |
