Match Report

South were facing a revitalised Newark team who had been putting some results together in the second half of the season to raise some pre-match concerns and the game was played at a high tempo right from the whistle. Adam Sharpe started quickest out of the blocks feeding Gary and Bingo down the left with Cotters dropping deep to distribute.  The first goal was fed through to Sam and some astute link up play led to Elliot “sloth monster” Dixon to sweep in. 5 mins later a hard fought PC was won and Cotters shaped to flick it between the oncoming runners and beyond the keeper's left glove. Grozzy applied a trademark reverse to crank the game up to 3-0.

However, pressure down the left from Newark led to some desperate defending and timely interceptions from GK Alex spared some blushes at the back. Against the run of play a nice counter from the back to Sam then through to Elliot and a Grozzy slap at the back post bought some breathing room, 4-0 at half time. The second half saw a conscious effort to move it down the right with Tom and Andy dictating the short passes in the build up. Special mention to young Adam Board who merited his place with some well timed tackles as waves of Newark attacks were telling on tired legs. Eventually an opportunity for Gary to steam the ball in was eagerly dummied by Elliot to allow the captain to complete his hat-trick. Thanks to the umpires for some solid decision making which made for a good spirited flowing game. Final score 5-0 backed up by a solid team performance.
