Match Report

After a long break for the festivities and the icy weather South 2’s travelled to Shobnall Leisure Centre to face Barton 3’s

South knew it would be a tough game with Barton 3rd in the league and a few of the regular campaigners missing from the line up.  South started positively and kept possession for a while, classically the first goal came from A big hit from Gary to a snick deflection from Ellz 1-0 South.
So boyed from the first goal South snatched the ball from the old man Barton CH and pinged the ball left with Gary in the action again this time smashing the ball bottom corner 2-0 South

Barton rallied and pushed South to gain a few short corners which despite Stevie breaking early Tommy marshalled he’s defence and kept a clean sheet. Great work in the defence this week with Ben on top form.

The 3rd goal came from a short corner, ball out to Stevie switched to Grozzy who’s slap went low and hard off a defenders foot to end up top corner. 3-0  South

South went down to 10 men for the last 3 minutes of the first half as the dubious and sometimes interesting decisions from the  umpires led both teams being warned that anymore backchat would end in a card.
Unfortunately the usually quiet Mr Willey had a brief chat with the older official and a green card quickly upgraded to yellow was the result, I think if I’d said anything else it would of been a red.

The 2nd half began with South dominating again  even with 10 men. With Alex Jones and James Bellamy creating great chances to feed the ever athletic Ellz and Grozzy. With the skipper playing in defence you’d think Grozzy would of got a hat full but it was Dan who struck next with a lovely bit of skill down the right driving along the baseline and completely fooling the keeper on his far post.  4-0 South.

Back up to 11 and South conceded a short corner with the old fella at the top of the D we knew where it was going. A slightly lifted shot fired at Tommy almost got through but Adam Board calmly picked the lifted ball and flicked it wide keeping a clean sheet.
Goal number 5 came from a South short corner when the umpire unusually saw a foul in the Burton D. A lovely routine saw the skipper drag a rocket past the keepers helmet 5-0 South
South were on fire with Barton  looking very average against a team who were obviously enjoying playing together.  Stevie playing out of his socks at CB with Ben had the burton attack in his pocket never letting them get a shot, Ben looked positively lithe beating his man to the ball every time. No sign of the Xmas spread on any of the team!
The 6th goal came from a goal mouth scramble and of course Alex Jones was in the right place in the back post to flick past the keeper with ease. 6-0 south.

Final score Barton 3’s-0 South 2’s-6
Man of the match Tommy was on fire today with Adam coming close with an excellent performance.

We were expecting a tough game but Barton rolled over and got spanked by a spirited South team that are on a roll.  Top work
