| Match Report | Humfris hits hat-trick for victory South Nottingham Ladies are still clear at the top of the table of Midlands Women’s Division 5 North East after another emphatic win on Saturday. But they were made to work hard by a powerful and well-organised West Bridgford side who raced into a 2-0 lead before Captain Eleanor Wallace’s troops regrouped and recovered Becky Humfris covered plenty of ground feeding the other South Notts forwards, despite being tightly marked. She got her team back into the game when she collected Caroline Brackenbury’s through ball and beat two defenders before shooting past the keeper to make it 2-1. South Notts levelled the score before half time when Fiona Sweetman and Jo Foxall set up Ruby Ryan, who found Humfris in space to drive home. Early in the second half, things began to unravel for West Bridgford. Liv Biddulph surged through for South after a shrewd pass from Steph Hagerty and scored from a tight angle to make it 2-3 to South Notts. Liz Foster ghosted in to add a fourth and Humfris showed great strength to complete her hat trick and make it 2-5 Captain Wallace said: “the score-line, fighting back from a grim 2-0 down, was a sign of how committed the whole Team was. The result was a priceless 3 points against a really good opponent”. |
