The details of matches for the start of the 2008/2009 season will feature above around August 2008, when we have planned pre-season friendlies and the League Fixtures are released.  In the meantime, have a good summer!

Match Reminder

Remember to ask your opponents BEFORE the start of your (home) match if they will be coming back to the clubhouse after the game (and the umpires, too) - then ring Jean Green to let her know how many will be coming back.  We have to raise our game this year, in terms of ensuring our visitors come back to the clubhouse after the game, the quality of the meals served at the clubhouse, and most importantly keeping Jean informed - so can I please urge all captains to try their very best to follow the above instructions to the letter.

It would be great if all team captains or vice-captains could try to get the results to me a.s.a.p. each weekend, instead of me having to chase you up by phone, so I can update this page - just a quick call on 0115 989 4060, a text message on 07810 603969, leave a message on the answerphone or send me an email (philcotterill@tiscali.co.uk) - it would make my life so much easier!

U15's  League result

The Juniors U15's League started this week, and very successfully too - they recorded a fine 8-1 win over local rivals West Bridgford at Nottingham Trent Clifton Campus on Wednesday (14th November 2007).  Well done to all who played, and keep up the good work!

Junior's - EH Cup Under 18's Boys  Result/ Under 15's Boys draw.

The England Hockey Boy's Under 18's played in the EH U18's Cup competition away at Brigg on Friday 2nd November (Scunthorpe) but went down 3-0, and therefore will not progress in the Cup stages.  If we now drop into the 'Plate' competition, we will keep squad members posted about upcoming fixture dates.

In the England Hockey Boy's Under 15's Cup (Round 1), scheduled for 4th November, we have been given a bye into the next round.

Chairman's Address -Ian Lane

"The new season is now under way, and once again the year comes with plenty of challenges. As you are no doubt aware, the centenary celebrations continue this year.  Lynne Morgan and her Centenary Committee continue to organise all the different events and functions, details of which will be announced during the season through leaflets and the website. Attendance at Centenary events has been very good, especially the ball, and I hope that this will continue to be the case.

Please continue to support your committee and your team captain, declare your availability as soon as you can, and if you are unable to play please give as much notice as you can and volunteer your match tax  to save people having to chase you for it at a later date.

On the playing front it will be another stimulating year, with the first team looking to bounce back from relegation last season;  due to some irregularities, the second team stay in the EM Premier Division, and that brings a level of challenge which will need to be surmounted.  Further down the club, the captaincies have remained stable, and that should also be reflected in the results on the pitch.

The Ladies continue to play well and hold their own in their respective divisions but they also need support with umpiring.  My thanks go out to those members who put themselves out to umpire, again quite often a thankless task, but a rewarding one, nonetheless.

When playing, play hard but fair;  treat your opponents and officials with respect, and use Caythorpe as often as possible.  Let's try to generate a real club atmosphere this year. As ever, if you have any suggestions or want to get involved with the running of the club, please approach anyone on committee - we are elected by you to represent you, so come and talk to us.

Have a great season individually, and the club will benefit in this special year."

Yours in hockey,

Ian Lane
